Various spellings of Perego include Perigo Perrigo Parago Pherigo Perigoe Parigo Perago Perrigot Perrygo. Our ancestors
the Perego's were from the south of France. They originated near the towns of Peregeaux and Perrigault. Because of their religious
beliefs, many of these French Huguenots were exhiled or just simply fled because of persecution. They traveled to various
countries, including England, Germany,Holland and Scotland. Those who surfaced in Holland changed their surname to Perrigot.
This is probably a Dutch spelling. Later, when they settled in America, the " t " was dropped. They were, for the most part,
middle class people.
It is said that the USA Perego's came from three brothers who fled France because of religious persecutions and that
one of the brothers went to Moracco and was never heard of agian, and another brother went to Switzerland and became a watchmaker..(Periquex's
watches of today). And the last came to America, assumed to be the Father of James Perego.
